Bear in mind that this is being delivered to Indianapolis. I see three possibilities.

The location in the status is wrong, and it’s not in Kansas anymore

The status information is correct, it’s just a very fast-moving delivery truck (and hopefully it’s not in Kansas anymore)

The USPS has no clue where Indianapolis is relative to Kansas

Any wagers?

Update :

Kinja'd!!!

Might be good news, but the insistence on Kansas doesn’t strike me as promising. Also I would have received a delivery notification from my UPS store by now. So, yeah, no.

Good luck. USPS “Informed Delivery” hasn’t seemed very informed for a while. FedEx didn’t perform any better for us . My wife was expecting a package yesterday. She was on her computer near a window with a view of the driveway when she got an email telling her the package had been delivered. No truck had ever entered the driveway. She went out to check the front porch, the side door, near the mailbox....nothing. She submitted a claim on their website and got some automated emails that essentially said “we think we delivered it - if you haven’t gotten it in two days contact the sender so they can start their package claims process”.

It’s not like the item was super-expensive, but come on. Our location is not that hard to find and we’ve gotten enough deliveries they should know where we are.  Sigh.

I use a UPS store address for all my online orders , which makes it a little more inconvenient to pick up packages but vastly more convenient to have them delivered.

Kansas City is in Missouri, so it makes sense that Indiana polis is in Kansas

There’s a reason why UPS is the largest, they get shit done correctly the first time.

USPS’s sorting system seems sorta dependent on someone sorting the mail: scanning , reading, and (mis)interpreting the address. Getting stuff sent to Canada can be pretty hit or miss, especially to a tiny town in rural Manitoba. It’s almost as though the “zip” code is meaningless, and it just gets sent to whatever town name is closest to what was written on it. I’ve had relatives mail stuff and received it several weeks to several months later than expected, and when it shows up, it’ll have multiple post marks from towns with similar names to mine   in various US states. Despite the fact that it always said CANADA in large lettres right below the postal code which is distinctly NOT a US postal code... It’s got lettres in it. It’s as if someone looking at it doesn’t see a zip code, assumes the address is completely wrong, and then, just, randomly sends it... you know, somewhere. “I’m sure it’ll find its way”.

I’ve since moved to Alberta, which I expect some percentage of Americans to be vaguely more aware of (tar sands, rodeos, mountains... etc) than Manitoba (winter , boreal forest) but when I recently had the ZJ’s ecodes shipped to me, I discovered that’s maybe not the case. They came from separate sellers on eBay, however both in Wisconsin, in the Milwaukee area. They both shipped on the same day, and went to the same sorting facility, but the one then went Chicago-Toronto-Edmonton-here, and showed up almost within a week, while the other one went Chicago-Cincinati-Dallas(kicked around here for a few days)-Cincinnati-Toronto-Winnipeg-Saskatoon-Edmonton-here, about a week late with the box beat to shit.

Meanwhile Fedex managed to get a package from Houston to my address in about 50 hours, which is only about 10 hours longer than what Google tells me it takes to drive that distance.
